Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund, 2016-17 Bundesliga: Projected Lineups, Preview Featured

Bayern Munich set to host Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena. Fifteen points may separate the two teams in the table, but after Dortmund’s win during the Hinrunde, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will be pushing to take all three points from the match.

Douglas Costa returned to training on Wednesday, and the Brazilian could feature against Dortmund. He’s been out since the international break, and his return could be a big boost to the squad.

It’s looking iffy that Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer will be featuring in the match this weekend; however, Bayern holds out hope for both players. The two stars should be available for the mega Champions League match midweek against Real Madrid.
We asked three of our writers to predict what lineup Ancelotti will play against Dortmund.

Bayern Munich’s 20 match unbeaten streak (W18 D2) across all competitions was brought to an end in a tricky fixture on the road to Hoffenheim on Tuesday. Bayern are still miles ahead at the top of the Bundesliga, however, so this 1-0 defeat is just a small stain on their otherwise stellar run of form in 2017. Within the space of a month and a half, the Bavarians have made their way to the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions league with a 10-2 aggregate win over Arsenal, eased their way through to the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal, and won all of their prior five “to nil” in the Bundesliga.

After a disappointing first half of the season, Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund have propelled themselves comfortably within the top four thanks to a strong start to the new year. Though last weekend’s 1-1 draw away to “Revierderby” rivals Schalke 04 was no doubt a disappointing result, Dortmund’s 3-0 win at home to Hamburger SV on Tuesday should help get them smiling again. This Saturday’s fixture away to rivals Bayern Munich is arguably the toughest fixture of the season, but Dortmund should prove tough competition, with wins in seven of their last nine competitive outings (W7 D1 L1), boasting a staggering cumulative goal difference of 25-5 over the same number.

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer is only a minor doubt ahead of Saturday.
Dortmund: Dortmund are doubtful over Marcel Schmelzer (left-back), Sebastian Rode (central mid) and wingers Marco Reus and Andre Schurrle. Mario Gotze is out for the foreseeable future due to illness.

Bayern Munich have won eight of their ten most recent competitive home matches "to nil", scoring an average of 3.6 goals per match over this period. Dortmund have lost three of their last six on the road across all competitions (W2 D1 L3).
